We’re Becoming: LGBTQIA2S+ Resistance & Solidarity in Oregon, part of Love, Life, Resistance & Solidarity: Celebrating Oregon’s LGBTQIA2S+ History.

Celebrate Oregon’s LGBTQIA2S+ History with Oregon Queer History Collective and the Portland City Archives at our exhibit, Love, Life, Resistance & Solidarity: Celebrating Oregon’s LGBTQIA2S+ History. Through community- and government-created documents, we showcase Oregon’s rich queer history in political activism, social change, and relationship building.
We’re Becoming: LGBTQIA2S+ Resistance & Solidarity in Oregon features historic and contemporary examples of queer life making. We present mixed materials curated as glimpses into lived and speculative connections and rebellion against oppressive systems. These social, political, and medical vignettes exist in conversation with, and at times in opposition to, government collected documents.
This exhibit shines a light on the urgent importance of community preservation, history, and archives, while elevating Oregonians’ voices. We also endeavored to employ language and terms that people used for themselves during their lives.

Come Together: Gathering the Threads of Activism & Community through the Generations celebrates Portland’s LGBTQIA2S+ pasts and presents. Curated by Oregon Queer History Collective, this exhibition draws inspiration from Gilbert Baker’s 1979 Pride Flag to find moments of authentically living life, healing, connecting with nature, enjoying art, and uplifting spirits in our archives and among the community. The blend of historical and contemporary materials gathered in this exhibition reflects our ongoing efforts to document queer experiences.
